Worthy Causes

OK, this section has nothing to do with writing or editing, but I wanted to use this space to promote some organizations I admire and support. If you’re looking for a worthy cause, please check them out. Thanks!

Kiva - loans that change is a microfinance organization that allows people around the world to make loans of as little as US$25 to entrepreneurs in developing countries. Borrowers use that working capital to buy supplies and equipment to start or expand a business.

Dignitas International

This Canadian-based NGO provides medical assistance in countries devastated by HIV/AIDS. The leader of Dignitas, Dr. James Orbinski, was international president of Doctors Without Borders when that organization received the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize.

Another Canadian-based aid group, CODE supports literacy and education work in nine developing countries: Guyana, Senegal, Mali, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Mozambique.

Harmony House

This Ottawa shelter for women and their children who are survivors of violence provides safe, affordable housing for up to a year, as families make the transition from crisis shelters to independent living.
